Hypnosis for Phobias

A phobia is a condition that can be experienced and recognized as unreasonable, but cannot be controlled or managed. The anxiety is, in a way, disproportionate to the situation the person is in. It is a state that is not accessible through logic. In the moment, it is not possible to talk a phobic condition away. Phobias are experienced as limiting and can have significant social consequences.
It can be a specific phobia, which may include fear of insects, spiders, snakes, dogs, cats, enclosed spaces, open spaces, fear of flying, heights, and more.
It can also be social phobia, which is the fear of interacting with people. Performance anxiety, speaking in small groups, or the fear of making a bad impression.

The phobic state can further worsen if situations are avoided where elements that trigger the anxiety are present. For example, discomfort with walking on the street can eventually lead to isolation. Phobias can also be conditioned by past experiences. Fear of driving, for instance, may be a result of a traffic accident.

Phobias are common, and many people have one or more specific phobias. Phobias can be acquired or congenital. This is why hypnosis is an effective way to reach deep into the subconscious and work with the parts of the mind responsible for phobias.

There are approximately 500 named phobias, so if you experience fear of something, it is not uncommon—and it can be treated!

Hypnosis for Phobias – Treatment in Copenhagen

In most cases, it is relatively simple to treat and remove a phobia through hypnosis.

Through hypnosis, you process the underlying cause of the phobia and remove the deeper fear. This makes hypnosis an extremely effective tool for phobias. I offer hypnosis for phobias at my clinic in central Copenhagen.

In hypnosis, we work with the subconscious. Hypnosis is a state of relaxation, a state we are familiar with and experience at least twice a day—when we fall asleep and when we wake up. When you are in hypnosis, you open up to beliefs that cannot be accessed through logical thinking. It could be that, when you were a child, you had an experience that made you excessively afraid, and you associated that experience with an object. This connection means that when you later encounter the object, the anxiety is triggered. So, part of you is activating or “pressing” the anxiety button in a given situation.

For example, if you have an intense fear of spiders, heights, flying, elevators, etc., you enter a kind of alert state whenever you come across the object or something similar to it.

It would be simple if you could just tell the part of you that activates the anxiety to stop, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. You can’t simply tell yourself not to be afraid.

In hypnosis, we work with the part that triggers the anxiety. It is possible in this relaxed and comfortable hypnotic state to connect with the parts of us that, in both helpful and unhelpful ways, guide our lives.

With hypnosis, we can reach this layer of consciousness and uncover the root cause of your anxiety. This is why hypnosis has been used for a long time and is a respected and recognized tool against anxiety and phobias.

Today, hypnosis is widely used among doctors, though most commonly abroad.
